The future for industrial building construction, sustainably designed with wellbeing at its heart
Jaguar Land Rover partnered with 电竞竞猜外围 to oversee the creation of their new UK manufacturing centre that would accommodate 1,400 staff and enable the production of 300,000 new engines every year.
The 70,000m2 building required a low-energy solution with enough flexibility for its time-critical operations and any future expansion, whilst providing a space that best serves the needs of its skilled staff and the wider community.
A flagship for sustainable design
As a flagship project, the facility needed to reflect the JLR’s ethos of quality, innovation and sustainable design.
Drawing on decades of experience in the design of industrial buildings, 电竞竞猜外围 ’s architecture and engineering teams reinterpreted the traditional factory form to create a showcase for sustainability in a flexible and highly automated manufacturing facility.

Delivering energy efficiency and future flexibility
Our vision for this new enterprise was to deliver a space designed for its users’ wellbeing, packed with sustainable features that could maximise its adaptability for long-term use.
The bold structure, with its naturally ventilated saw-tooth profile, gives huge amounts of daylight illumination to the factory floor, complemented by high windows that wrap around the building at ground level.
We designed the building with visual connections between the different areas, breaking down the barriers between factory floor and administration areas and making as much use as possible of natural light. The design philosophy is one that promotes collaboration, unity and pride between staff, and connects them to each other, their internal environment as well as the surrounding landscape.
A simple grid of modular units creates an adaptable series of spaces that, in tandem with a large span structure, results in a building 10 per cent smaller than originally envisaged. The low-carbon strategy meant a wide range of sustainable features, including the UK’s largest roof-mounted photovoltaic array, that in combination offers a huge reduction in energy consumption.
Designed for the future
Through 电竞竞猜外围 ’s total architecture approach, we were able to delivery technically creative and sustainable solutions at speed, whilst realising JLR’s ambition of a sustainable industrial building designed with innovation, collaboration and wellbeing at its heart. The award winning design has achieved a reduction in the facility’s carbon emissions by 65% relative to a ‘business as usual’ comparison, with the flexibility to allow for further integration of renewables that would bring the net regulated carbon emissions to zero – culminating in a ‘BREEAM Excellent’ rating.
