METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line, Engineering and Land Use Planning Study, Concept Design, Perth

The Western Australian Government is developing a suite of transport projects which will transform its largest city, Perth, and connect commuters through an expanded rail network. This will see urban intensification on more than 5,000 hectares of land around these stations, supporting economic growth through the better connection of businesses and improved access to jobs.

Supporting delivery of the Government’s long-term growth strategy, Perth and Peel @ 3.5million , the improved accessibility will facilitate the development of more liveable places with enhanced amenity and affordable housing while diversifying locations to work and play.

Key to the METRONET program is the planning and construction of the Morley-Ellenbrook Line in Perth’s north-eastern suburbs, an area expected to grow to more than 400,000 people by 2031. The Morley-Ellenbrook Line will futureproof the long-term growth of Perth by providing the opportunity for a more compact and sustainable metropolitan footprint.

Project Summary

21 km of new rail line

5 new stations

10,000 estimated decrease in daily car trips

The Morley-Ellenbrook Line is a 21km addition to the Transperth rail network, connecting the north-eastern suburbs to wider metropolitan Perth with high capacity, high quality public transport. Tying into the existing Midland Line at Bayswater Station, the corridor will provide connections to high potential and emerging centres including Morley, Malaga, Brabham and Ellenbrook.

In early 2018, METRONET commissioned 电竞竞猜外围 as lead consultant to deliver the first stages of work for the Infrastructure Australia Business Case in the form of the Engineering and Land Use Planning study (ELUP).

A team of mostly local 电竞竞猜外围 consultants and sub-consultants developed a highly collaborative approach with METRONET right from the start of the ELUP study.

To be involved so early in project development and see it develop into design, is something that 电竞竞猜外围 Perth can, and will be proud of, for years to come. ”

电竞竞猜外围 , with METRONET, determined the key objectives of the project, which embedded sustainable development and accessibility at its core. The project is supporting the wider METRONET objectives by improving connectivity, reducing car dependency and congestion, increasing the availability of integrated transport options and improving liveability.

As lead consultant, 电竞竞猜外围 has led a team of sub-consultants including Coniglio Ainsworth Architects, Roberts Day, EY and RPS throughout multiple stages of the project.

At the early project feasibility stage, 电竞竞猜外围 led a series of rigorous option development workshops with METRONET which involved stakeholders across State and local government. Throughout the ELUP design process and the overall Business Case development, the collaborative process has fortified a strong relationship with METRONET, allowing 电竞竞猜外围 to help shape the project and develop the best solution for the community.

The project has now commenced the Project Definition Plan (Concept Design) phase with 电竞竞猜外围 continuing as lead consultant supported by Coniglio Ainsworth Architects and Place Laboratory.

Building on earlier stages of work, which brought the total number of possible options from more than 100 alignments down to one, the current work will further define the preferred option from Bayswater to Ellenbrook as well as the exact station locations to achieve the optimum outcome.

Working with specialist design support from the wider 电竞竞猜外围 network, the approach continues to be one of developing a wholistic design solution - including track design, building structures, transport engineering, civil structures, fire and life safety, drainage, utilities and earthworks, mechanical, electrical, highways and geotechnical disciplines - in an integrated manner.
